The Capital Regional District (CRD) Local Community Commission (LCC) is seeking community input on potential additions and improvements to crosswalks in and around Ganges Village. The main roads through Ganges on Salt Spring Island have a series of crosswalks managed by the Provincial Ministry of Transportation and Transit, which has agreed to this study and requested that the CRD be the project lead.
This project is part of the LCC’s ongoing efforts to advance priorities identified in the Salt Spring Island Active Transportation Network Plan, including pedestrian safety in Ganges Village. An important part of this process is gathering community feedback about experiences using crosswalks. We want to hear from you! Please fill out the form below to share your experiences, concerns, and suggestions about crosswalks in Ganges.
The scope of this project is to analyze existing crosswalks in the Ganges area to help improve pedestrian safety and walkability. The study area includes a 2.5km stretch along Fulford-Ganges and Lower Ganges Road, between Seaview Avenue and Sharp Road, as well as Upper Ganges Road from Lower Ganges until Churchill Road. Eight existing crosswalks are being reviewed as a part of this study, including:
Fulford-Ganges @ Ganges Alley
Fulford-Ganges @ Lower Ganges
Lower Ganges @ McPhillips
Lower Ganges @ Hereford/Purvis
Lower Ganges @ Rainbow
Lower Ganges @ Upper Ganges
Lower Ganges @ Village Terrace
Lower Ganges @ Crofton
We're also exploring where new crosswalks might be needed to make it easier and safer for people to get around on foot. The end goal of this project is to identify improvements that support a safer, more connected community.
Your input and feedback will help inform a report and recommendations shared with the LCC and Ministry this fall.

We’re collecting feedback from the public to help identify existing crosswalks in Ganges Village on Salt Spring Island that may need improvements: such as better visibility, signage, or other safety enhancements.
We are also exploring potential locations for new crosswalks, with the goal of making walking in the area safer and more accessible for everyone.
We want to hear from you! Your experiences, observations, and suggestions will directly help shape future pedestrian safety improvements in Ganges Village and across Salt Spring Island.
